FROG DISSECTION
On Wednesday and Thursday we dissected frogs. The point of this dissection was to show us what the inside of the frog looked like and that our bodies insides looked very similar, to the frogs. The human and the frog have the same parts so their functions should be the same. I learned how my bodies systems/functions worked after looking at the frog. Even though I didn't watch the whole dissection in my frog i still learned by dissecting on the Internet. The frog and the human both have the stomach so I learned that the stomach is a small sack in our bodies. The function is to break down food in the process of chemical digestion, this accrues in the digestion system. We both also have livers and gallbladder. The liver produces bile and cleans the poisons out of the body. the gallbladder than stores the bile. My group got a female frog, so after seeing the eggs I couldn't handle the smell any more, so I learned all about the insides of the frog online. It was very helpful having the website: http://frog.edschool.virginia.edu/Frog2/. When my group open the frog I thought that the eggs would be in one sack and I wouldn't even see them, but I was proven wrong when there where black little eggs everywhere. You had to remove all the eggs so you could see the other organs. Under the eggs was the liver, stomach, small intestine, gallbladder, ect. Online when they cut open the stomach nothing was inside, I was expecting to see something maybe a bug or a mush of black gunk or something. I was definitely shocked when the stomach was empty. I guess the frog had not eaten when it died, but i don't know. I was hoping to see food in the frog because than i could see what the, frogs were eating. The frog dissection lab helped me get a better understanding of my body, and how my systems/functions work. This lab was not my favorite because the smell didn't work with my stomach or my head. I could have done without the dissection but then wouldn't know anything about myself so I am happy we dissected even though I wasn't feeling great. http://www.teachkind.org/FreeDissectionAlternative

10-11-11 science lab
In science class today we preformed a lab using iodine. First, we filled a plastic bag with corn starch and water. After we tied a knot in the bag, we placed it in a beaker with water and iodine. After 15 minutes of waiting we took the plastic bag out of the beaker our results were shown. Our lab was successful when the corn starch turned purple because the iodine seeped through the bag. This was what we did today in science.
